Weaving Workshop

Inspired by the textile art that is part of the Crafted Selves exhibition, this workshop gives weavers of all skill levels the chance to create a small woven art piece with support, instruction and inspiration from weaver Janet Hughes.
Inspired by the theme of identity and personal reflection, participants are invited to bring an object that has meaning to them to this workshop to weave into their piece. Alternatively, you could bring an object collected from the natural environment such as driftwood or a pebble. This workshop will contribute to our ethos of sustainability by using waste, offcut and reused yarns; there are also many items you can also bring to recycle and use in your textile such as old material, plastic bags, even wastepaper – any clean, flexible waste can be cut up to create something you can use to weave.
We have collaborated with St Andrews Museum to develop an exciting group of workshops and activities at St Andrews Museum until the exhibition Crafted Selves ends in St Andrews in preparation for its move to Kirkcaldy in March 2024.
Crafted Selves: The Unfinished Conversation takes its title from a continuing discourse between curator Cat Dunn and the 13 Scotland based artists featured. Working in sculpture, painting, ceramics, textiles, installation, moving image films and creative writing responses, the artists all in some way carry a Dual-Identity. Many have a sense of their own self born from having a cultural heritage which is both Scottish and one which is rooted in another cultural home. The exhibition also explores other dualisms and expressions of identity, including artists who express their sexuality, disability, or trans and non-binary selves through their work.
