Ruairidh agus Ruairidh Eile (Derek/Rody and the other Derek/Rody)

15 March – 31 March 2012, FCA&C @ St Andrews Town Hall foyer (Queen’s Gardens, St Andrews, KY16 9TA, tel 01334 474610; open daily during StAnza until Sun 18 March 10am-5pm; thereafter weekdays 10am-5pm; free).

This exhibition brings together works inspired by the artist Derek Robertson’s extended collaboration with the Gaelic poet Rody Gorman, who appears at StAnza 2012. Landscape and locality feature in the work of both, and as a Gaelic speaker himself, Robertson works with meanings and connotations in the original and English versions of the poems, often using visual metaphors that mirror or contrast aspects of both languages, and explores how ideas change and are adapted. The title of the exhibition also suggests the way that ideas are mirrored and changed. The names ‘Derek’ and ‘Rody’ are both forms of the Gaelic name ‘Ruairidh’.

This exhibition is presented by FCA&C in partnership with StAnza Poetry Festival 2012.
