Join Fife-based artist Marion Smith for a free drop-in workshop exploring the designs and concepts behind her incoming public sculpture for the Dunfermline Learning Campus.
Join Fife-based artist Marion Smith from 1.30-4pm, Saturday 24 January 2026 at Duloch Library in Dunfermline for a free drop-in workshop exploring the designs and concepts behind her incoming public sculpture for the Dunfermline Learning Campus.
This will be an opportunity to meet Marion and hear about the influences informing her research for the sculpture, including local plants and insects, local stories, and Dunfermline’s significant history in the textile industry. You will then be invited to explore these influences by embossing, building, and decorating air-dried clay tiles to create your own designs to take home. Marion will have a range of Dunfermline-specific inspirational material to use and reference, and you can bring your own materials that inspire you or represent your local community.
As lead artist of the new public sculpture at Dunfermline Learning Campus, Marion has collaborated with DLC students and campus users to generate ideas for the sculpture and think about possible artwork locations. Marion also worked with local artists to deliver a series of creative workshops to discuss the language, techniques and approaches used in sculpture, and explore meaning, memory and the value of participation in creating public works of art.
The Craft Pod display will also be found at Duloch Library, featuring models and drawings of Marion’s designs, with opportunities for interaction and feedback which Marion will consider through delivery of the project.
