Craft Pods’ 2015-16 Tour

Cutlery is something most people take for granted.  We use it every day, so it’s seen as a fairly mundane tool, rather than an exceptional object.  The next tour of items in the Craft Pods might change that notion as it’s a selection of nine silver and iron spoons made by Scottish silversmith Grant McCaig.

The silver spoons & scoops have in fact handles made from smoothed driftwood or old floorboards; the iron spoons (or cucharas) came about as a result of a trip to Colombia, South America, where Grant had an opportunity to research large scale metal casting in a foundry in Bogota.  From this came a collection of iron spoons with touches of vitreous enamel decoration in their bowls.

The 2015-16 tour, starting later in October, will again circulate round Fife libraries and for the first time, will also visit one of Fife’s secondary schools.
