Dunfermline based and born, Alan Grieve graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee with and MFA in 2008. He is a recipient of the Andrew Grant Travel Award, Carnegie Vacation Scholarship and Farquhar Reid Trust Art Prize. He initiated Workspace Dunfermline in 2014. He has been working with fellow artist Edward Summerton since 2024 as part of the art group A+E. He is currently Artistic Instigator at Blackie House Library and Museum in Edinburgh.  

Selected exhibitions include Reveal at Royal Scottish Acadamy (2023), Song Composed in August at Blackie House Garage Space (2024), Ring of Truth at Blackie House and Edinburgh Art Festival (2025), The Magic Circle (2025) with Edward Summerton.
