Lawhead Primary visit Jila Peacock exhibition

FCA&C welcomed 26 members of the primary 5 class from Lawhead Primary School to St Andrews Town Hall earlier this week.  They were given a chance to look at the shape poem prints by artist Jila Peacock, watch the short animation film accompanying them, and also do a short drawing exercise.

The class then returned to school to take part in a short workshop led by Fife printmaker Lisa Gribbon which gave them a chance to try out printing skills.  The project was devised by FCA&C volunteer Denise White who felt the shape poems lent themselves to being accessible to young people and as the class had already worked with StAnza writing poetry, it seemed a good link to make.

Jila Peacock’s ‘Ten Poems from Hafez’ exhibition is on at St Andrews Town Hall until 31 March 2011.  Work by primary 5 will then be on display from 5-28 April in FCA&C’s foyer space at St Andrews Town Hall.  Opening hours will be weekdays 10am-5pm.

More info about Jila Peacock’s exhibition can be found on FCA&C’s website programme page.  Click here if you’d like to see and  hear a short clip from her animated film, ‘Tongue of the Hidden’.
