Programme
To celebrate Black History Month 2021, Fife Contemporary asked Fife-based artist Abz Mills to share some of her inspirations and describe her path into practising art.
She describes the latter as ‘unconventional’ and following college courses, found her true calling as a tattoo artist initially. Through hard work, she is now well established in her field with a distinctive, colourful and vibrant style.
The killing of George Floyd in the USA in 2020 affected her deeply and the personal drawings she produced as a result were noticed by Wezi Mhura, organiser of the Black Lives Matter Mural Trail. Abz was ultimately invited to take part and her large-scale drawing, calling for justice for Sheku Bayoh, as well as 4 of her series of earlier drawings, were an important part of the Trail.
Abz Mills’ talk is an honest description of how she found her way into the arts, and how much joy it brings her.
