Open Studios North Fife

Open Studios North Fife is an award-winning, popular, artist led-event. You can meet artists in their own studios and find out about their creative methods and sources of inspiration.

Open Studios was set up in 2005 to promote the wealth of talent of professional artists and makers in the area.

There are a wide range of artists, designers and makers including painters, sculptors, ceramists, jewellers, textile artists, glass and more who will have work on show.

It’s a great way to see artists in their own settings and spend a day or weekend in the picturesque North East Fife.

Wasps

Wasps Studios is a charity that provides affordable studios to support artists and arts organisations.

For nearly 50 years, Wasps has been at the heart of Scotland’s creative sector, providing vital support to artists and makers across the country. With a presence in 19 sites, from Shetland to the Borders, they offer flexible studio spaces, foster artistic careers, and rejuvenate historic buildings. Through all their programmes and activities, they currently support over 1,000 artists, 25 arts charities, and 81 creative businesses.

RSA (Royal Scottish Academy)

The Royal Scottish Academy of Art is an independent, privately funded institution, led by eminent artists and architects, whose sole purpose is to promote and support the creation, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts through exhibitions and related educational events.

SCAN (Scottish Contemporary Art Network)

SCAN is a not-for-profit charitable organisation with a small team who work alongside a range of collaborators and freelancers. The majority of their Board is made up of SCAN members who are artists or who work within contemporary visual arts. They stand up for the cultural, social and economic value of contemporary art – and for the people who create it. Through their projects, events and online resources they aim to bring the contemporary visual art community together and link in with wider conversations that shape the kind of world we want to live in.

Scottish Artists Union (SAU)

The Scottish Artists Union campaigns for all visual and applied artists living and working in Scotland. They are the only representative voice for visual and applied artists in Scotland. Artists tend to work alone, and individually have little influence or political ‘clout’. The union aims to make policymakers appreciate the needs and importance of artists in the Scottish cultural, social and economic scene.

SSA (Society of Scottish Artists)

The Society of Scottish Artists are a dynamic and inclusive organisation with a growing community of more than 1800 members based all over the world. They welcome artists of all disciplines and backgrounds, at every stage of their careers. They provide inspiring and valuable opportunities for all members, from students and recent graduates to established artists.

As one of the oldest and biggest artist-led organisation in Scotland, the SSA are committed to building on the strong foundation of their rich history, while always seeking to experiment, innovate and challenge tradition. They champion, support and empower their members, and foster connections, partnerships and collaborations, both in Scotland and internationally.

Peacock and Worm

Peacock is a printmaking workshop in the north east of Scotland, established in 1974. They offer a wide range of artistic techniques, such as relief printing, intaglio, screenprint, lithography, risograph, and letterpress. They are a charity supported by Aberdeen City Council & Creative Scotland. They are an open access studio, which means you can use their facilities regardless of skill level. All are welcome: whether you are a full-time artist or a keen dabbler, Peacock has a place for you.

The Worm is a contemporary visual art gallery in Aberdeen, Scotland. They showcase artworks from all over the world, focussing on printing and publishing. Their exhibitions show work by contemporary artists, fine art prints from the archives and objects related to Aberdeen’s rich print history. Entry is always free.

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop

Located in the community of Newhaven, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is a place where artists make and develop work.

ESW supports artists in many different ways, providing subsidised studios, open access to affordable workspaces and specialist facilities as well as training and professional development. They commission new work, provide funding through a year-round programme of residencies and employ artists across all areas of activity.

ESW is open to anyone interested in learning about or making sculpture. Their purpose-built spaces provide a unique environment and they regularly host organisations and community groups who want to make use of the facilities for their own programmes. For individuals or groups wanting to develop skills and knowledge ESW’s learning programme includes courses, tailored workshops and skills training. A free public programme of talks, exhibitions and tours provide other ways to get involved and meet artists.

Edinburgh Printmakers

Edinburgh Printmakers is a creative centre for printmaking and the visual arts in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh.

It has a large light-filled printmaking studio, two galleries, a shop selling original prints and handmade products, a venue for meetings, events and learning activities, a café, a courtyard, and community garden. 

The printmaking studio welcomes anyone interested in joining our courses or becoming a member. It was established in 1967 as the first open-access studio in the UK and is one of the largest in Europe. Set in Castle Mills, a beautiful heritage building that was formerly a rubber factory and brewery complex, Edinburgh Printmakers fosters a creative atmosphere for both the local community and visitors to enjoy. 

Gracefield Arts Centre

Run by Dumfries and Galloway Council, Gracefield Arts Centre holds a varied and dynamic schedule of exhibitions throughout the year featuring work by local, national and international artist and makers and selected exhibitions from a permanent art collection.

Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA)

Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) is an internationally renowned centre for contemporary art and registered charity that enables audiences, artists and participants to see, experience and create. With two beautiful large-scale gallery spaces, two thriving cinema screens, a busy print studio, an award-winning learning programme, and a packed programme of events, workshops, classes and activities aimed at all ages and abilities, DCA is a vibrant cultural hub open to all, located in the heart of the city.
