About the Project
The Fife Carers’ Collection is a collection of high quality, original gifts designed for you with care and imagination by Carers in Fife.
Carers contribute so much to our communities and the Collection has provided them with a rare opportunity to take time out to focus on themselves and their creativity.
Carer Groups Involved
Kirkcaldy Carers’ Centre – Adult Carers
Lochgelly Fife Young Carers – Youth Focus Group
Glenrothes Fife Young Carers – Junior Group
CARE grew from previous work Fife Contemporary had been facilitating with groups throughout Fife. We had invited artists to work with them, teaching ceramic and jewellery skills. These sessions were enjoyed and appreciated with the groups so we wanted to develop a larger more ambitious project.
We held consultations to produce a meaningful and relevant project for them, letting them decide what skills they wanted to explore and what the purpose of making would be. There was a suggestion to make high quality products to raise funds for ‘treats’; so we took it from there and the project began.
Members of the Fife Carers’ Centre worked with poet and perfumer Rebecca Sharp, blending essential oils to produce their unique calming and inspiring scents, Woodland Walk and Fire Dance, for candles and solid perfume.
Junior Young Carers from Glenrothes have worked with ceramicist Gavin Burnett and artist Alan Grieve to create quirky drawings and characterful porcelain pots.
Our branding was developed by designer Maeve Redmond from a concept devised by the Young Carers’ Focus group in Lochgelly.
