Illustration – Junior Carers Group

With Alan Grieve, visual artist

Alan Grieve, Fife-based visual artist, worked with the group to create many fun and playful illustrations that have the potential to be applied to numerous products.

So far we have used them to produce sketch books, printed in the UK using recycled paper and card. We have also designed tea towels that showcase a great selection of the drawings.

We decided to pull together the skills and creative experiences from both workshops and apply the drawings on to some of the ceramic pieces as well.

“Sometimes working as a freelance artist seems to offer unending challenges and uncertainties. Working on this project with Fife Young Carers showed me a group of people with resilience and inventiveness in the face of difficulties and premature responsibilities that quickly put my own complaints in sharp context. In spite of daily routines that most adults would struggle with, these amazing young people made thier way to Glenrothes YMCA on wet and windy winter nights to produce drawings that were filled with joy and humour. That their work was beautiful, showcased as illustrations on ceramic pieces made with Gavin Burnett, was a fitting way to celebrate a project highlighting the importance of creativity. “
