A conference to introduce Makers and craft & design Graduates to Scottish arts organisations that offer support, funding and opportunities.

This is an open invitation to makers form all over Scotland to come together for a day of connecting with other makers and organisations that can help you plan and consider your future practice.

Thinking about starting up your own business? Wondering how to go freelance? Want to be inspired by other makers? These are just some of the topics we will be looking at over the course of the day. We will also be looking at how you can apply for funding and who to.

Defining Your Work Session

“As creative entrepreneurs, we know how important it is to be able to talk about the work that you do- to tell your story. Especially when it comes to networking, business planning, funding applications, investment pitches, etc.
So, to support your success, we’ve designed our Defining Your Work session as the first step to mapping out your journey and planning your business. The goal is to help to clarify your aims by supporting you to describe clearly what you do, how you do it and why you do it.

Producers of the excellent Fashion Foundry and Vanilla Ink (jewellery) programmes will be there to give bite sized information about experience in their industry with a chance for Q&A. Fifes very own Tom Pigeon will be sharing their experience on building and running a successful creative business and their varied routes to market.

Fashion Foundry Session | Stop Designing

You are an amazingly creative talented designer that it going to set the world of Fashion alight. You spend most of your time sketching, making and creating. Stop. You need to balance the creative and commercial to turn your talent into a business. What aren’t you doing ? Planning, Books, Branding, Marketing, Sales, Photography, Logistics…Do less design and more of the other things.

This conference is aimed at

  • Graduates of Craft and Design courses
  • If you have just finished your course of study at FE College
  • or are established or new to your practice
  • anyone interested in meeting/ hearing talks and introductions from the organisations listed above

Delegates are asked to provide their own lunch. There is also a cafe available onsite.

We will also be launching our Online Graduate Maker Exhibition ‘Materialise’ which will showcase new and exciting makers from the different Artschools and colleges from all over Scotland.
