Alan Vest is an image maker. It’s all about the line, scratching pen on paper with energy yet precision. Incorporating a range of materials in his work and trying to keep the finish as raw as possible. Capturing the smudges, fingerprints and sausage roll crumbs are all important to making his images lively and characteristic. The illustrator has worked with international clients, and also collaborates with local bands, publications and galleries. Creative Review’s Talentspotting scouted Alan Vest as one of eleven graduates as part of the Gradwatch scheme, in partnership with JC Decaux. This showcased artwork from chosen graduates on billboards nationwide. Until recently, Vest created weekly illustrations for My Writing Day in the Guardian’s Saturday Review.
The exhibition features a series of original illustrations from the Saturday Review, focussing on poets that have been drawn by him and will give an insight into his process – how he develops his ideas.
Organised by Fife Contemporary in partnership with StAnza 2018, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival
