The compulsion to transcend our biological constraints is a subject that runs throughout Schor's practice. Stemming from an interest in biological science, her work reveals a fascination with decorative ritual- in particular, the point at which this decoration surpasses mere adornment. For her, the mark-making process itself refers strongly to its talismanic and symbolic use found in many rites and ceremonies. Within this context, decorated objects and bodies become potent through their fusion with 'belief', elevating them from the mere physical. Schor plays with this concept through her laboriously wrought recurring images.
