Sara Howard

Sara Howard is our youngest contributor to the ‘REsolve’ exhibition, having graduated with a BA Hons in Ceramic Design from Central Saint Martin’s (London) in 2020. She was the winner of the international 2020 Wanted Design ‘Conscious Design Awards’ for the best design student project in the sustainable solution category

Sara has a long held interest in sustainable design and created a tableware collection called Circular Ceramics for her final piece on her degree, made entirely from reclaimed industrial waste. The materials she uses are the by-products from the glass, stone, construction and ceramics industries and are usually seen by those industries as waste with no value.

By establishing relationships with certain manufacturers to relieve them of these by-products to make her work she  not only diverts waste away from landfill but also minimises the consumption of the finite raw materials that would usually be mined to make new ceramic ware. Her Circular Ceramics tableware is a dynamic example of circular design rooted in an industrial symbiosis which provides both ecological and economical gains.
