Lowri Davies

My father bought me a watercolour set when I was about 11 along with a beautiful set of drawing pens. He’s not an artist, but he encouraged me to work that way, and I still use the same technique today to decorate my work. Then, whilst on my Foundation course in Carmarthen I became interested in Ceramics due to a lively department and exciting team of teaching staff.

I graduated with a BA in Ceramics at Cardiff School of Art in 2001, and then went on in 2007 to study for my MA in Ceramic Design at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent.

One of the highlights of my career so far is winning the gold award for craft at the National Eisteddfod in Bala, and as a result, being accepted as part of the Gorsedd of the Bards. It’s only in recent years that visual artists have been accepted into this cultural circle. It might seem a little strange and surreal, but it means a lot to people who are Welsh speaking and involved in Welsh culture.
