David Shrigley studied Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art (1988-1991), establishing his first studio in Glasgow before moving to his current home in Brighton in 2017. He is best known for his distinctive drawing style and works that satirise everyday situations and human interactions. Once described as possessed of ‘the compulsive habits of an eavesdropper shouting out loud’, his work encompasses animation, painting, sculpture, photography and music as well as graphics for independent magazines and
collective music projects that pushes the work beyond the boundaries of traditional gallery spaces – which he nonetheless occupies on a regular basis.

A Turner prize nominee in 2013, he became the 2016 artist for the Fourth Plinth project in Trafalgar Square, London, and Guest Director of the Brighton Festival in 2018. Shrigley’s works are included in prominent collections internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich; Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; Thyssen-Bornemisza Contemporary Art Foundation, Vienna; Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh;
Tate, London.

Life behind the Scenes is an animation commissioned by textile company, Pringle of Scotland. In 2009, Pringle invited artists, fashion designers, industrial designers, architects, art institutions and select retailers to reflect on Pringle’s knitwear heritage. Creations were produced in a limited edition of 195 pieces: a Pringle temporary store in London was curated by the Serpentine Gallery (February – September 2010) to showcase all collaborations. Proceeds of sales were donated to art institutions invited by
the Serpentine Gallery. David was further invited to create this animated film in colour: launched at the AW10 menswear collection launch at Corso & Como Milan, Italy, in January 2010.
