Catherine Aitken

From a small studio in Leith, Edinburgh, Catherine Aitken creates bags and accessories for the cosmopolitan adventurer.  Catherine has a passion for working with heritage cloths and combines this love with a fabulous contemporary twist, producing designs that are all about the different textures of cloths that are steeped in historic traditions but not forgetting functionality.  A big fan of city breaks and working on the move, Catherine’s collections embody style and strength, beauty and purpose.  Harris Tweed –  handwoven in the Outer Hebrides – is used, as well as linens woven in Fife, waxed cottons from Dundee, mohairs and tartans from the Borders and deerskin leather from the West Coast. Combining all these elements in different designs is a joy and allows the wearer to express their individuality, especially with the Renaissance range – recycled from vintage jackets.  All the designs are made in Scotland.

Catherine has produced a collection for the National Galleries of Scotland and has shown her work in London, New York and Los Angeles. Her designs are retailed in stores throughout the UK, Europe and the US and she works closely with clients to create bespoke handbags and manbags.
