Ceramic artist Moyra Stewart, winner of Fife’s first Next Steps award, funded through Fife Council and Creative Scotland and administered by Fife Cultural Trust and Fife Contemporary Art & Craft, can be seen in the dramatic picture below about to plunge a large, ceramic vessel into a fiery bin. Dressed in serious protective gear, Moyra’s large scale pots are magically transformed by the raku firing process, their original pale surfaces given delicate monochrome patterns. For images of her finished work, and the film of this exciting (and dangerous!) firing process, take a look at her website. She will also be exhibiting some examples of her wonderful pots at this year’s Pittenweem Arts Festival which opens on Friday 3 August.
