Small is beautiful!

If you’re into books in any way, you might like our display for the StAnza Poetry Festival at St Andrews’ Byre Theatre.

Featuring the delightful work of artists Phiona Richards and Alix Swan, this small exhibition shows how wonderful imagination can be.  Phiona creates miniature sculptures (in this case, turned into very wearable jewellery items) out of the pages of old, ‘dying’ books combined with needlework techniques.  Alix is a fan of the fairly tale and remembering the stories she heard from her mother and grandmother, has incorporated the essence of a tale into her wonderful handmade books.  Read ‘Hansel & Gretel’ or ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’ in a mere handful of words, colourfully illustrated.  Like Phiona, she likes recycling redundant materials and has found, for example,  that old 35mm slides make excellent mini book covers!

The exhibition runs during the StAnza Poetry Festival and beyond.  For more information, have a look at FCA&C’s website.
