The western part of Fife Council’s Museums Service has its headquarters at Dunfermline Museum in an early 20th century house. From this are run an underground site (St Margaret’s Cave), a museum in a 14th century (but much altered) Friary in Inverkeithing and a 17th century house in Pittencrieff Park which was converted to a museum almost 100 years ago using Robert Lorimer designs.
The collection is a mixture of local objects concerned with civic, commercial, industrial and personal life. There are two groups of objects which are particularly interesting: costume and items connected to the local linen industry.
