FCA&C presents Thinking, Making + Matter Symposium

Presentations and discussions on visual arts, craft, design and multi discipline practice

St Andrews Museum and Byre Theatre, St Andrews.
Friday 17 February 2017, 10:30am- 3:30pm.
£10 Full Price, £7.50 Student Price.
Lunch and refreshments included.

Defining a work of craft, design or visual art is becoming increasingly more stimulating and challenging. Lines are being blurred over these disciplines, which is provoking some interesting conversations. Artist and makers are no longer adhering to the conventional principles of their discipline and now move fluidly between many specialisms. The abundance of materials currently available has allowed artists and makers to experiment and develop a practice with infinite possibilities.

As part of the programme of events relating to the exhibition Jasleen Kaur, this Symposium will examine, engage and complement the concepts relating to the work on show. Artists and curators will present and discuss their ideas and experiences around current approaches to making and curating in visual arts, craft and design highlighting the crossovers. Our Keynote speaker will be London based designer Ted Hunt alongside presentations from London based curator Amanprit Sandhu, curator Catriona Duffy of Panel and contemporary ceramic artist James Rigler. To conclude our day we will have our Board Member Helen Voce chair an open discussion.

This Symposium is aimed at anyone interested in the crossover and blurring of Craft, Design and Visual Art and the discussions surrounding them. This includes students, artists, makers, designers, curators and collectors.
